13:50 YORK

Top pick: Lady Fanditha | Second choice: Good Vibes

The Marygate Stakes has turned out to be one of the most competitive races of the week at York, with 20 fillies going to post for this Listed contest.

My selection is the Clive Cox-trained LADY FANDITHA, who won first time out when well-supported at Nottingham a couple of weeks ago. The form of that race is already looking strong with the second and third going on to win since.

Clive Cox said this would be the next target after the race that day, and that the filly had shown up well at home prior to her winning debut. Gerald Mosse, who has an 11 per cent strike rate at York in the past five years, takes the ride.

Recent Salisbury scorer Good Vibes is also too big a price not to be backed each-way, with Betway paying four places.

14:10 NEWBURY

Top pick: Ice Age | Second choice: Fille De Reve

ICE AGE lines up again in a bid to win the race for a second consecutive year off the same mark of 99.

He has since climbed up in the weights and ran some decent races off an increased mark, but no win in seven attempts has meant he's dropped back down.

With his favoured good ground and only a small field to contest with, he should take all the beating under regular rider Charles Bishop.

Fille De Reve is on a career-high mark but may still be improving and is no doubt going to be played late by the ever-cool Jamie Spencer.

14:25 YORK

Top pick: Twist 'N' Shake | Second choice: Sunday Star

There was absolutely nothing between Maqsad and TWIST 'N' SHAKE in a maiden at the Newmarket Craven fixture last month.

There is no reason to believe the John Gosden filly isn't just as good as William Haggas', who is currently for The Oaks with Betway.

She came and won her maiden last Friday at Nottingham, quickening away with ease to win by seven lengths.

I’m convinced she is a Group-class filly and looks a worthy favourite to me.

15:35 YORK

Top pick: Grandee | Second choice: Society Red

Roger Fell has a great record of revitalising horses from other stables who look to have lost their way a little, and looks as though he’s done again with GRANDEE, who recently left David O'Meara's yard.

Since transferring to Fell, he finished fourth on his stable debut before winning easily at Newcastle last time out.

It could be that this horse, who was once rated 102, has found his stride and can win again under talented rider Ben Sanderson, who is well worth his 5lbs claim.
