1.50 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: WELL DONE FOX

Second choice: Poetry

There’s plenty of winning form to pick through in this Group 3 sprint for juvenile horses.

The market suggests it’s wide open with five horses trading under 8/1 at the morning prices.

Sergei Prokofiev from the Aidan O’Brien stable will no doubt be a popular choice, but the stable have a poor record in this race. The Ballydoyle handler has had two horses in the last two years towards the head of the market and both finished well-beaten in seventh.

WELL DONE FOX was runner-up in a Group 2 contest last time out. He’s a little more exposed than the opposition, but he's been in the first two home in five of his eight races this season.

As long as that hasn’t taken its toll - and there's no reason it should with a four-week break under his belt - then this January foal can take all the beating for a top two-year-old stable.

2.40 YORK

TOP PICK: JUST HISS

Second choice: Alemaratalyoum

Gale-force winds and rain are forecast for this afternoon at York, and by the time of this race the morning description of ‘Good’ going may have turned to the softer side.

This mile handicap is around 5/1 the field, but had a 15/8 winning favourite last year.

JUST HISS was fifth in this race last year and comes back to try again with a lower weight and a slightly more favourable draw. He also handles all kinds of ground so any change in the weather shouldn’t affect his chances.

He’s ultra-consistent, with 12 place finishes in 27 runs – mostly in competitive races like this one, and jockey Rachel Richardson gets on with him well - she was on board for two of his three career wins.

3.35 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: PRETTY POLLYANNA

Second choice: Shambolic

This race should be a decent pointer towards next year’s top-class classic fillies.

Aiden O’Brien has trained the winner in three of the last four years, so his entries Hermosa and Zagitova warrant plenty of respect.

That said, the Michael Bell trained PRETTY POLLYANNA has incredibly impressive form on the clock and if she can handle the step up in trip she should put all of her fellow juvenile fillies to the sword.

3.35 Newmarket: Pretty Pollyanna

4.10 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: BERKSHIRE ROYAL

Second choice: Soto Sizzler

This handicap hasn’t had a winning favourite in the last four years, with an average SP of just over 16/1 in that period.

BERKSHIRE ROYAL was third in a slightly better race at Ascot last time out. He’s been incredibly consistent during his three-year-old campaign with three wins and three seconds in his eight races in 2018.

He’s had a nice little break before this and can claim another win before the season ends.
