With £10,000 up for grabs on Tuesday, here are Chad Yeomans' best horse racing tips for Goodwood to get you started.

14:25 

The Vintage Stakes on the opening day of the Goodwood Festival is a Group Two over seven furlongs for two-year-olds, and what a race we have in store!

Pinatubo , who has been so impressive in all of his three career starts to date, looked as though he’d improved for the step up to seven furlongs in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Lope Y Fernandez , who he readily swept aside, re-opposes again here. That defeat to the Godolphin hope came just 15 days after his debut and he is sure to have learnt from that experience - I’m expecting him to get closer to the favourite this time.

The speed figure analysts were all over Visinari  after his debut success where he clocked an impressive time. He was heavily backed to follow up that success last time out but he was narrowly beaten by a neck in the July Stakes at Newmarket. He is a big tall horse and I expect him to improve as he goes up in trip and is partnered again by Frankie Dettori.

Positive  also looked very sharp on his debut when thrashing a field by five lengths at Salisbury; a race that has had the form franked since too. Clive Cox trained the winner of this race 10 years ago when Xtension took the spoils and he has been waxing lyrical about the chances of the Dutch Art colt.

15:00 

The Lennox Stakes has been a great race for punters in the past, with there being six winning favourites in the last 10 years, while other winners returned at 7/1, 13/2 and 5/1. There was a shock winner in 2017 in Breton Rock at 50/1 - he runs again this year as a nine-year-old .

The current favourite for the race is Zaaki , who is trained by Sir Michael Stoute and set to be ridden by Ryan Moore. He won his first two starts of this campaign, including a victory in the Diomed Stakes at Epsom on Derby Day before being denied by a nose to Beat The Bank at Ascot last time out.

Last year’s winner Sir Dancealot  comes here off the back of a disappointing run at York last time out, however that was on his less-favoured soft ground and a return to better ground should see a more successful run this time.

The sole three-year-old challenger, Space Traveller , won the Jersey Stakes at Ascot last time out. He lines up for an in-form Richard Fahey yard and is the mount of Danny Tudhope, who is currently sat at the top of the jockey’s championship. Three-year-olds have a mixed record in this race, but they do get a good weight concession from the older horses, which has been put to winning use three times in the past 10 runnings.

The penultimate race on day one of the Goodwood Festival is a handicap over five furlongs and, as with every five-furlong handicap at this level, it is mightily competitive.

Boom The Groom , who won this in 2016 off a mark of 98, returns this year off a mark of 83! Can lightning strike twice for the Tony Carroll-trained gelding?

The William Haggas-trained Muthmir  has slipped down the handicap from his career high rating of 120 to his current mark of 102. He ran very well last time out at Ascot when missing the start and flying late on, and his running style could suit Goodwood. He’ll be fast and furious from the off, providing he doesn’t miss the break again!

Maygold  comes here off the back of a win at Salisbury and looks a sprinter on the upgrade. The four-year-old is the mount of Sylvestre De Sousa and will appreciate any cut in the ground, so keep your eyes on the weather forecast.

17:15 

The Fillies’ Handicap to close the card on day one was won last year by Move Swifty, who won the Duke of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot this year for trainer William Haggas. This year he saddles Nkosikazi  , who is having just her third run for that stable, following a move from the Brian Meehan yard.

The last three runnings of this race have been won by three-year-olds and this year there are seven horses aged three who are taking their chance. Gary Moore, who does so well at Goodwood, saddles Clara Peeters and Sylvestre De Sousa has been booked for the ride.

Mark Johnston has made it publicly very clear how much he likes Goodwood and how he targets his horses at this meeting - his three-year-old Warning Fire  comes here off the back of two victories, including at Redcar nine days ago.
