Top Pick: Invincible Army 14/1
INVINCIBLE ARMY has a very good chance of getting back to winning ways in what will be the easiest race he’s contested this season, following on from his seventh-placed defeat in the Group One Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot last week.
His two victories prior to that defeat had catapulted him into favouritism of that six-furlong sprint at the royal meeting, but, with the eventual winner Blue Point being declared late on, his position in the market was replaced.
He travelled well but wasn’t going to get to Blue Point and he was eased down in the final 100 yards, costing him a few placings.
Providing he doesn’t bounce, he should be better class to these rivals and will take all of the beating to continue his trainer James Tate’s fantastic season.
14:45 YORK
Top Pick: Great Prospector 14/1
GREAT PROSPECTOR is a horse I’ve put up a few times and I’m convinced he’ll come good one day.
There is every chance that this will be that day with conditions looking to be in his favour for the in-form Richard Fahey yard.
He finished third here on his last start over seven furlongs in an extremely hot handicap and that run suggested that a strongly run six-furlong race, which he’ll get here, could well see him get his head in front.
This horse was highly tried as a two and three-year-old, which suggests he showed his trainer that he had the raw ability and I’d be surprised if he ended the season on his current mark of 94.
At the current prices, I’d recommend backing him each-way with Betway paying five places.
Other eyecatchers include Intisaab, who ran better than his finishing position suggests in the Wokingham last week, and also Justanotherbottle who ran well here on his seasonal debut but may have the Stewards Cup as his main target.

Top Pick: Theglasgowwarrior 8/1
The Jim Goldie-trained THEGLASGOWWARRIOR is my selection for the Northumberland Vase and I’m convinced we haven’t seen this best of him just yet.
Still only five, the Sir Percy gelding ran last week in the Winton Cup at Ayr and was beaten just under five lengths, but he was doing all of his best work at the end of the race over a trip short of his optimum.
He ran a career best last season in the Cesarewitch when he finished fifth and a reproduction of that form will put him right in the mix over this extended two-mile trip.
Ian Williams’ Michaels Mount won over 2m1f at Pontefract recently and a bold front-running show can be expected in the hands of jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

Top Pick: Bartholomeu Dias 12/1
As ever, the Northumberland Plate is hugely competitive and has attracted a stellar field, including the Willie Mullins-trained Stratum and the favourite, Gibbs Hill, who hasn’t seen a racecourse in 724 days.
Winning this race first time up will be some feat and he’s short enough in the betting to make me look elsewhere.
My top pick is the Charlie Hills trained BARTHOLOMEU DIAS, who is massively improving and may have snuck in slightly under the radar with all the focus being on the aforementioned protagonists.
He was last seen winning here in April in a race where the form has been franked on several occasions, most notably with the third placed horse Baghdad, who went on to win his next two starts.
As a two-year-old, he finished fourth in the Chesham stakes and looked to be a horse who will appreciate a step up in trip in time.
This two-mile trip will be the furthest he’s encountered, but all the signs of his previous suggest it won’t be a hinderance.
Interestingly, his trainer has entered him in the Group One Goodwood Cup and a victory here would certainly add justification to that. With Betway again offering five places I’d suggest backing him each-way.
