1:50 YORK

Top pick: Mutamaded  | Second choice: Tapis Libre

This is prestigious race for female amateur jockeys and has thrown up its share of shocks in recent seasons.

The race has produced only one winning favourite in the last decade and the average winning SP in that time was just over 10/1.

Tim Easterby’s yard are to be respected having won three of the last eight renewals of the race. He saddles Multellie who is partnered by 2016 winning rider Emily Easterby (Tim’s daughter).

MUTAMADED is starting to look well-handicapped on his 2018 form, which includes a ‘soft’ ground handicap win in this class bracket.

2:25 YORK

Top pick: Aces  | Second choice: Firmament

A maximum field charging down the straight at the Knavesmire will always have punters hoping they are on the right side of the pace and the draw.

This is especially relevant on extremes of going. Past winners of this particular race have been drawn towards the middle of the field.

ACES is drawn in stall 8 and has the assistance of Ryan Moore. The ground may have been too quick for him on his last two runs and this looks to be a better fit based on his best form.

3:15 SANDOWN

Top pick: Alternative Fact  | Second choice: Masham Star

Jockeys seemed undecided on Friday’s card at the Esher track as to which part of the track to aim their charges at as they turned for home in the straight. This will make for an interesting tactical battle as whips are drawn in this handicap.

The market suggests we are in for a tight race, although my fancy is a big outsider.

On his two-year-old form ALTERNATIVE FACT would have a huge chance in this race, but his odds reflect his less-than-convincing start to his four-year-old season. He’s been beaten a combined total of 62.5 lengths on his first two starts in the spring.

He’s a horse that was thought to be around Listed or Group 3 class earlier in his career and that’s why I’m prepared to take another chance on him at a huge price here.

3:35 YORK

Top pick: Luxor  | Second choice: Moraawed

If you’ve got this far in the 4 to Win, then it really does get a whole lot harder.

We tackle a race where the market has been topsy-turvy in recent seasons with winners ranging from 20/1+ three times in the last decade, one winning favourite and two successful second favourites.

Horses towards the lower end of the weights have an advantage based on the trends and you’d also expect them to be less worried about the forecast ‘soft’ going.

Aussie jockey Kerrin McEvoy has flown in for Royal Ascot next week, but starts at York with a ride on LUXOR in this sprint.

He goes to the Kanvesmire for one ride before taking in Doncaster on his way back down to Ascot for Tuesday’s big opening card. That effort to travel could be a tip in itself on a horse that has won with cut in the ground.
