14:05 Haydock

The opening leg of 4 To Win is a one-mile handicap at Haydock.

A three or four-year-old has won this race in each of the last 10 years. Dubai Dominion makes a standout case for himself following a creditable second place at Haydock last time out.

He has previously shown a liking for ground with cut in and was highly tried, suggesting his trainer thought a lot of this Pivotal colt.

Jason Watson is having only his second ride for the Ed Vaughan yard and can steer the Phoenix Thoroughbred-owned colt to victory here.

At a bigger price, Crownthorpe has shown a liking for soft ground. Cameron Noble takes a valuable three pounds off the Richard Fahey-trained four-year-old.

15:00 Newmarket

This is the best race of the season for two-year-olds. In terms of excitement and anticipation, it is up there with the best races of the season for all ages.

In reality, a case can be made for each runner in the Middle Park Stakes, but there are particularly a couple to focus on.

The favourite Earthlight  should take plenty of beating. Andre Fabre doesn’t bring horses over to the UK, especially Group Ones, unless he thinks they have a fighting chance.

This Sharmadal colt is four from four following an impressive victory in the Prix Morny last time out. He’ll welcome any cut in the ground and should put his four-race career to good use, utilising his experience on a tricky racecourse.

The other horse to focus on is the Ryan Moore-ridden Monarch Of Egypt , who has twice been beaten by Siskin.

He has progressed with each run and has been tenderly treated by his master trainer Aidan O’Brien, who had pinpointed this Group One contest as a target earlier in the season.

15:15 Haydock

Much like the opening leg, this race has been dominated by three and four-year-olds in recent years. 

Camacho Chief  and Makanah are both four-year-olds who have improved this season and have both shown a liking for testing conditions.

The former finished fourth over course and distance off a one-pound higher mark last time.

The latter was impressive in the Portland at Doncaster two weeks ago and is a very strong traveller. Trainer Julie Camacho’s horses are in good form.

15:40 Newmarket

The final leg of 4 To Win is the Cambridgeshire Handicap over 1m1f. Thirty-three runners go to post for this cavalry charge on the Rowley Mile course.

Betway Ambassador Andrew Balding saddles current favourite Good Birthday  who, despite winning over further, looks as though a strongly run 1m1f contest would suit him.

He’s battle-hardened and has champion jockey elect Oisin Murphy in the saddle.

One less battle-hardened is the John Gosden and Frankie Dettori mount Lord North , who looks to have been trained all season with this race in mind.

He has only had four career starts, but he looks and travels like a group horse in his races. With a wide birth of 29, I expect Frankie to keep it simple from the front.

At bigger prices, Beringer  and Majestic Dawn  look set to go well.
