13:55 GOODWOOD
Top Pick: Willie John | Second Choice: Fabricate
Roger Varian is enjoying a flying start to this flat campaign and he can get his day off to a flyer here with WILLIE JOHN. He has disappointed on his last two starts, but still has a glowing reputation from his trainer and this drop back in trip should suit.
David Egan, who rides Qabala in the Irish 1000 Guineas on Sunday, takes the ride here.
This race is ultra-competitive and I expect Fabricate, owned by the Queen to be doing his best work at the end of the race for the in-form Michael Bell yard, who celebrated a 5 timer on Monday evening.
14:15 HAYDOCK
Top Pick: Eden Rose | Second Choice: Nakeeta
It’s said in both codes that the staying division often has one horse in each race that's simply better than the others. I feel that may be the case here with the improving EDEN ROSE.
The step up to two miles this year has seen her win both of her races including the Queens Prize Handicap at Kempton Park, and I'm keen on following fillies when they’re on an upward curve as they tend to just keep improving.
Nakeeta for trainer Iain Jardine, who has a 23 per cent strike rate at Haydock in the past 5 seasons, is a proven stayer and will relish the conditions here, so I’d suggest an each-way saver on him too.
14:30 GOODWOOD
Top Pick: Beat Le Bon | Second Choice: Jack’s Point
BEAT LE BON was rumoured to be very high up in the pecking order of juveniles at Richard Hannon’s yard last season and narrowly lost on debut to Momkin, who was just beaten in the Craven Stakes earlier this year.
Since then, this Woottoon Bassett colt has gone from strength to strength and flew home on his last start at Newmarket, suggesting this step back up in trip to seven furlongs will bring out further improvement.
Outsider Jack’s Point is a big price and well worth an each-way bet.
14:50 HAYDOCK
Top Pick: Aweedram | Second Choice: Duke of Hazzard
The Spring Bowl is always fiercely competitive and this year’s renewal is no different.
This race is often won by an improving horse and AWEEDRAM fits the profile. He was well supported when he won on his seasonal debut at Newmarket in April and followed up at Ascot recently on ground seemingly softer than ideal.
This return to quicker ground will certainly suit and it’s very interesting to note that Richard Kingscote, who has a great record at Haydock, is riding this as opposed to one of the few Tom Dascombe horses he’s attached to.
Duke of Hazzard was third in the Chesham at Ascot last year and may be overlooked. Should the market be favourable, he should be backed each-way following two great efforts in France this term behind Persian King.
