A rather wet opening day, but a profitable one for followers of these tips with a very impressive winner of the Betway feature race to boot.

Here are my best bets for day two of the Ebor meeting on the Knavesmire…

1.55 – Goffs Premier Yearling Stakes

Another incredibly tough puzzle to open day two.

Plenty want a crack at this huge (by Class 2 standards, anyway) prize, with enough place money up for grabs that even the 10th horse home gets a return!

The stables of Richard Hannon, Kevin Ryan, William Haggas and Richard Fahey all have good records with wins and places in this contest over the last decade.

There have only been three winning favourites in that period, which is hardly surprising for the competitive entry structure and prize on offer.

Winners of this race during the last 10 years have been fairly well exposed for juvenile horses, having run an average of six races beforehand, which is unusual for horses in their first season.

Fahey’s DARKANNA drops into this from three outings at Group level.

With a handy allowance for being a filly she can get involved at the finish at a double-figure each-way price of .

2.25 – Lowther Stakes (Group 2)

MAMBA NOIRE  is one of the best each-way bets of this meeting.

She's raced twice at Group level over this six-furlong trip and has been placed at odds of 20/1 and 25/1.

Tackling seven furlongs last time she weakened in the last, but is back to her ideal trip today and I expect another bold showing at a frankly ridiculous price.

She’s booked to come home seventh if you take a literal look at the market, but I will boldly state here that she will outrun that spot and should get at least third.

3.00 – Mile Handicap

A real bookmakers’ race, with lots of double-figure winners down the years and no winning favourite since 2007. Make no mistake, this is a tough nut for punters to crack.

Horses of seven years or older have a poor record so we can eliminate a few to start forming a shortlist.

Nine of the last 10 winners carried 9st 4lb or less, so we can take out a few at the top of the racecard.

Extremes of the draw tend to be favoured with either very high or very low numbers accounting for the majority of winners in recent seasons.

BLAIR HOUSE  and MYTHICAL MADNESS  both fit the bill and are worthy of each-way support.

3.35 – Yorkshire Oaks (Group 1)

Sit back and enjoy ENABLE  give Frankie Dettori and John Gosden another wide-margin success at this meeting.

Much like Cracksman in the Betway Great Voltigeur yesterday, she should take all the beating.

ABINGDON could follow her home and represents cracking value in the 'without the favourite' market at .

4.15 – Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes 

Three-year-old fillies have dominated this in recent seasons, accounting for the last six winners.

ALJEZEERA  looks the type to improve for tackling this 1m4f distance and the ifs and buts of that conundrum might not be correctly reflected in her big prize.

Back her each-way and hope she lasts home. There’s plenty of stamina on her dam’s side so maybe we can be more than hopeful.

4.50 – British Stallion Studs Fillies' Handicap

Another tough handicap to finish off proceedings.

Recent history of this contest says we should focus on three-year-olds in the line-up.

I think both POET’S PRINCESS  and ANGEL OF DARKNESS can outrun their prices and provide an each-way return.
