Andrew Balding: King's Lynn is in grand form and has a live chance
The Betway ambassador previews his three runners on Champions' Day at Ascot.
Coltrane (13:25 Ascot) has had a very long season, but he’s had a successful one at that. With that said, his last run was his best run, so we’ve felt it is worth rolling the dice one more time. Despite this, it’s going to be a very tough race.
It’s sure to be run at a very fast pace, but if he can hold his form for one more race, he has a great chance of getting placed and that would cap a great season.
King’s Lynn (14:00 Ascot) has had this as his target all along. He was due to have a prep run, but he didn’t make that engagement. He’s in grand form and I thought he shaped well at Ascot last time, which would have sharpened him up. It’s a really competitive race but he has a live each-way chance if he gets some luck.
Symbolize (16:40 Ascot) runs in Balmoral Handicap. He was second in this race last year and we’ve always thought he could end up back here this year. He ran poorly last time, which was unusual for such a consistent horse.
We’ve applied cheekpieces to sharpen him up and if he gets a slice of luck with the draw, he could go well again under Callum Hutchinson, who is a very valuable 5lb claimer. He’s always suffered bad luck with draws throughout his career, so we’re due a change of fortune with him!
