Andrew Balding: My thoughts on our 5 Saturday runners
The Betway ambassador previews all of his runners at Ascot, York and Salisbury on Saturday.
ASCOT
Mystery Smiles (14:25) hasn’t run since the Guineas. He had a niggle so had a little break but we’re happy with him now. He’s a smart horse on his day but whatever he does, he’ll improve for the run.
Shine So Bright (15:00) ran really well in the Bunbury Cup at Newmarket. We would normally have wanted a bit more time in between races, but he’s sound and well and this looks a good opportunity. If he repeats that Newmarket run, he should be competitive.
YORK
Bangkok (15:15) might have it all to do against Mohaafeth, who looks very good. He’s been very consistent and thrives on his racing. These are his ideal conditions, so he could have place prospects if everything falls right for him.
SALISBURY
Lion Hunter (17:30) is a work in progress. I think he’s on a fair mark and this task does look easier than his previous assignments. I think the track will suit him and Oscar Palmer takes the ride.
Touchet Beret (20:05) shaped alright on her debut when she finished fifth at Goodwood. She’s entitled to come on for that, but I think she’d be better with a little juice underfoot.
