Chester runners

Sunset Salute  was quite green on his debut but started to get the hang of things late on. I like to think that young horses do learn a lot when they go around Chester and this will help him in his development. He’s got a chance if he shows he’s learned from that outing (14:05).

Strozzi was even greener on his debut. It was slightly disappointing as he’d been shaping very nicely at home prior to that, but it’s not surprising for young horses so early in their career to show that they need the run. I think he'll learn plenty from this outing, too. (16:25).

Rival ran well at Epsom last time out but, I have to say, this is a competitive looking race and perhaps a little tougher than we expected it to be (17:00). He’s stepping up in trip and we’re hoping that suits him well. He went around the course as a two-year-old and that experience shouldn’t be lost on him.

Haydock runners

King’s Lynn should have every chance in the Betway Achilles (14:20). He ran well at Chester considering the winner managed to steal three lengths on him from the gates. That’s not as easy to do at Haydock so I think we’ll get closer to him this time. He seems in good form at home.

Melody Of Life ran very well at Chester last time and I’d be slightly disappointed if he didn’t run a big race (16:40). Conditions will suit him, he seems in great form at home, and I think he’s reasonably well-handicapped – so he looks primed to go well.

Salisbury runners

Himyan showed promise on her debut at Newbury on her first career start. She travelled well throughout the race, but it was testing ground and she just got a little tired. She should come on for that debut and has a nice chance of picking up some place money (19:15).

Spirit Mixer has been looking like he wants to go a little further but, as he’s been running on some of the sharper all-weather tracks, we’re keeping him at this distance for a run on the turf (19:45). I don’t think his handicap mark truly reflects his ability, but it’s about getting his head in front and progressing from there.

Cadeau D’Or  ran well in a better race than this at Newmarket last week. The cheekpieces seemed to help him and, as I’ve said before, I thought he’d be nailed on to be winning races of this nature at the beginning of the year. I’m not sure if this race will come too soon after last week, but we’ll take our chance and find out (20:15).
