Sunday runners at Goodwood

The Kodi Kid  was slightly disappointing last time out, but they were in difficult conditions. I think he’s come on for that run and, providing the ground doesn’t get too quick, he should run a nice race (13:45). At the start of the year I thought he could be a well-handicapped horse and I have no reason to think otherwise now.

There is a first career start for Touchet Beret , too. It will be good to get experience into her as she’s always been quite big and quirky, but she has started to get the hang of things of late. Whatever she does here, she'll improve for it (16:40).

Saturday runners at Epsom

We’ve got a good team of horses going to Epsom on Derby day. We were lucky to have a second and fourth in the main race last year and this year we run Youth Spirit , who won his trial well at Chester. We were really happy with him that day. The question was whether he would stay, but he proved that he can and in really good fashion, too.

We couldn’t be happier with him at home. It’s another step up in class, but there is only one Derby (16:30), so we’ll find out if he’s up to it on the day. It’s also really exciting that his owner made the journey over from Dubai to see him. He obviously missed seeing Khalifa Sat finish second last year, but he’s followed the protocols to get here safely, so it’d be great if he saw his horse run well.

Bell Rock was impressive at Newmarket last time but has now got a rating of 109. Other than lumping top weight in good handicaps, we’ve got to step him up into stakes races. It’s a very valuable race and we think Epsom might suit him. If it does, I’m hopeful he could run a nice race (15:10).

Stone Of Destiny  runs in the Dash (15:45), which is pretty much the fastest 5f race in the world. I think this will be right up his street. He’s well drawn, seems in good form at home, and I was encouraged by his run at Goodwood last time. He’s won a Portland and has been effective in other big-field sprint handicaps, but just like those races, you need plenty of luck in running. The margins are so fine.

Group One Power won the Great Met over course and distance in April, so we know he’ll operate on the track. He ran with credit at Ascot last time and I think he’s got a good chance of going close (17:15) as he seems very well in himself.

Saturday runner at Lingfield

This is a first start for Senorita and I have no doubt that, however she does, she’ll come on hugely for the experience. Saying that, our two-year-old fillies have done very well this season, so here’s hoping she can continue the good run (18:45).
