Andrew Balding: Estate is worth a look at Epsom
The Betway ambassador previews his runners on Friday, with 10 entries at Epsom, Bath, Goodwood and Doncaster.
Estate (14:00 Epsom) runs in the Woodcote. He’s still a maiden and is worth a look given the price money of the race. I think we’ve made the right decision as he should be competitive.
Carolus Magnus (14:35 Epsom) has had this as his target since his Newmarket run last time. He’s come on well in the last three weeks. It’s a very competitive race but he should run well given his form at home.
Good Birthday (15:45 Epsom) always promised to have a race of this nature in him. He won the Zetland Gold Cup 12 months ago and does have the ability go run well.
Star From Afarhh (17:10 Epsom) has a bit to find on official ratings. She’s the type to enjoy Epsom, providing it continues to dry out. Obviously, the main goal for her is getting some black type, so hitting the frame would be a good result.
Kerkyra Island (17:50 Bath) was really in need of her debut run from an experience point of view, but she sharpened up from that run.
I’ll Be There (17:55 Goodwood) is one I’d thought would improve more than she did from her debut run, but I do think she’s better than she showed at Nottingham last time. Obviously, Harry’s claim is very valuable in these races, so she must have a good chance.
Flag High (19:02 Goodwood) is having his first run in a handicap and has an opening mark of 72, which looks rather high for what he’s achieved. Handicaps will be more his level, though, so I expect him to run with credit.
Dubai Jewel (19:37 Goodwood) was due to run at Thursday at Leicester, but we took her out as the ground was too slow. She didn’t go a yard at Chelmsford as she didn’t break well, got in behind and took some fierce kickback, so I’m happy to put a line through that run. She’s been useful on a straight track, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see her go close.
City Streak (19:51 Doncaster) ran well at Haydock last time. The track and trip should suit him, and he should go well.
Kingsofthemidlands (20:12 Goodwood) ran well in a charity race on Lockinge Day, where the form has worked out well. He’s the sort of horse who we think will keep improving this season.
