Andrew Balding: My thoughts on our 3 Saturday runners
The Betway ambassador assesses the chances of his three runners at Newbury and Doncaster on a relatively quiet day.
It’s getting to that time in the season where we’re really slowing down with the number of runners we have as we move into winter. We have just the three runners this weekend.
It’s still a very exciting time of year for us as we’ve been busy purchasing yearlings in the hope that we’ve found the next superstar.
We’ll have a good handful of horses to run throughout the winter, including a few who we hope will end up at All-Weather Championships Finals Day and some of the key races during the all-weather season.
Saturday Runners
Morando (14:35 Newbury) will love the ground as it’s going to be pretty testing. He dead heated in this race a few years ago and, although he’s not getting any younger, I still think he’s got plenty of ability.
He ran well last time, where the ground was faster than ideal, and I think he could be competitive this time with conditions to suit.
Imperial Fighter (15:15 Doncaster) is a horse we like a lot. He’s been solid this season and ran very well last time out behind a horse I think is very good. He raced away from the winner but ran with great credit to finish second.
I think he’ll like the conditions he gets here, and I’m hopeful of another good showing.
Perfect Sensation (15:45 Newbury) is well up to winning races, but I’m not sure if she’s going to truly appreciate a testing mile at this stage in her career. We’ll learn more about her that’s for sure.
