Andrew Balding: Softer ground should help Stormbuster
The Betway ambassador previews his seven runners across the country on Saturday.
Ndaawi won the conditions race at Epsom really well last time. This is a big step up in class, but he stays well and will enjoy the conditions. It’s such a tough race to win but I’d be very happy if he finished in the first three (13:33 Saint-Cloud).
Goolwa will love the ground. It’s a tough race but she ran well at Yarmouth last time, and if she could get some black type it would be a good achievement (14:25 Newbury).
Berkshire Rebel might prefer a quicker surface to this (14:30 Doncaster). He’s a handy horse on his day, but he did absolutely nothing at Newmarket last time. We worked him in the blinkers the other day and he went well, so we’re hoping they make a difference on the track.
Opera Forever is a lovely filly. It’ll be quite testing for these two-year-olds, but she’s improved for her debut run and has a good chance of finishing in the places (14:55 Newbury).
Stormbuster runs in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Stakes, but it looks a very tough race (15:35 Doncaster). Any one of about six could win it but he looked comfortable on softer ground at Newbury last time and that will help him. Getting placed would be a great result.
Strike Alliance will have learned plenty on debut and, if he comes on from that as we expect, he should give a better account of himself (17:20 Chelmsford).
Club Manager is making his debut but he’s a big, raw horse who’ll need the experience (17:55 Chelmsford).
