It has been a difficult week following what happened with Beat The Bank, but we’ve received so many kind words of support which we really appreciate.

After a hugely busy Saturday last week, things are much quieter this weekend with just the four runners.

Newbury on Saturday

The main meeting of the day is Newbury and our best chance of a winner has to be Fox Chairman  in the opening Listed race (13:50) over 1m2f.

It looks like he is going to start favourite and he certainly won’t mind the rain that has fallen. He handles slower ground well and it will probably be on the easier side of good.

We’ve been really happy with the horse, he ran a great race at Ascot where he was a bit unlucky. He comes into this with arguably the best form, but I did think Pondus looked a very good horse at Sandown two starts back.

It didn’t work out for him at Ascot, but I’d certainly have respect for him and he won’t be a pushover.

The more rain the better for Donjuan Triumphant  in the Hackwood Stakes (15:00), but he will only run if there’s enough ease in the ground.

He is a very good horse when he has conditions and he ran very well behind Brando at Haydock last time. He normally comes into his own towards the end of the season when the rain arrives, but if it’s slow enough on Saturday he would have every chance.

The Tin Man is obviously the one we all have to beat as a three-time Group One winner, but we’ll give it our best shot.

Fox Duty Free  makes his debut in the six furlong novice (16:10) and he’s a horse that we like a lot.

He is by Kingman, so you wouldn’t think the ground will be a problem for him if it softens up, although ours normally come on for the run and he is a long term prospect.

Newmarket on Saturday

Tinuviel   is another making her debut in the fillies novice auction (14:05) at Newmarket.

She has done plenty of work at home and gets into this off a nice, low weight.

It’s always difficult to know what to expect with horses making their debut, but I’d say she has an each-way chance if she’s streetwise enough.

Irish Oaks

I’ll be watching the Irish Oaks at the Curragh and will be hoping one of Ralph Beckett’s two fillies win it.

Manuela De Vega is a very good filly who ran really well in the Oaks last time. She will really enjoy any cut in the ground if more rain arrives and I’d hope she can do it.

Both her and Antonia De Vega look overpriced to me, while Pink Dogwood and Iridessa look short enough.

Glorious Goodwood

We’re less than two weeks away from Goodwood but we don’t have any firm plans yet.

They will be doing their main piece of work in the middle of next week so we’ll know more after that.

A lot will depend on the weather but we hope to send quite a few down there.
