Andrew Balding: We're hoping Holguin has some mojo left
The Betway ambassador previews his runners at Newmarket, Ascot, Redcar and Longchamp on Saturday and Sunday.
SATURDAY
Something Enticing (13:31 Newmarket) will appreciate any rain that comes as she loves soft ground. She’s had a breathing operation since her last run, and we hope that will help her. She’s in good form at home but it won’t be easy off top weight.
King’s Lynn (13:51 Ascot) has got a 7lb penalty to contest with, which will make it hard work. However, these are his optimum conditions and he’s fresh and well, so he should give a good account of himself. It would be a real thrill to train a winner for The King.
Holguin (15:21 Redcar) is in good form, but he does have a bit to find with Cold Case and a few of the others, but we’ve always liked him. He’s had a relatively light season, so we’re hoping he still has some mojo left for this assignment.
Symbolize (15:36 Ascot) will love these conditions. He was second in the race last year and has run well in these types of races all season. You never quite know who the draw will favour at Ascot, so we’ll just hope he’s on the right side.
Oo De Lally (15:36 Ascot) loves soft ground, so will be thankful for any rain that falls in Berkshire. He’s never performed to his highest ability at Ascot, but I would assume that it’s largely that he’s never run there on his conditions. We’re trying a tongue strap on him, too. He could be competitive for a place.
Arabian Storm (15:52 Newmarket) is having his first run and although he’ll be winning races in time, I think he’ll benefit a lot for this experience.
Wilderness Girl (16:10 Ascot) is on the hunt for some black type. She’s better than her mark gives her credit for; things just haven’t gone right for her this season. She’s won’t mind cut in the ground, too.
Whimsy (16:27 Newmarket) has been very consistent all season and would have a strong chance at being competitive again.
SUNDAY
Sandrine (17:00 Longchamp) is our only runner in France this weekend. She’s been in great form this season and won’t mind any cut in the ground. Ralph Beckett’s Kinross will be tough to beat, but we’ll give it a go!
