Delighted with Royal Ascot showing

We were all so thrilled to get four winners at Royal Ascot this year. To get one is hard enough and would have been something to be proud of, so to end up with four was amazing. It was really satisfying for the whole team and it was equally pleasing to do it for four different owners, too.

Berkshire Shadow has come out of his Coventry Stakes victory well. We’ll probably wait for Goodwood with him now as we’re keen to step him up to 7f.

King’s Lynn raced twice at Royal Ascot and the poor horse had no luck either time. I certainly think he could have taken a lot of beating in the Wokingham had he had got a clear run, but it’s good to know we’ve got a very good sprinter on our hands going forward.

Sandrine was a very impressive winner of the Albany. I was slightly worried about the slower ground as she’d worked very well on faster ground the week before, so for her to do what she did was very pleasing.

Alcohol Free’s victory was brilliant. She truly justified our belief in her, but it left a slight feeling of ‘what could have been’ from the 1000 Guineas as she clearly is as good as there is in that division. I was delighted for Jeff Smith, the owner, who has been with us a long time. She might end up at Newmarket next time out as she’ll have the option of either the July Cup or the Falmouth.

Foxes Tales looked a nice horse before Chester and while I thought it was the ground or the track that could have found him out, it was probably just where he was at that stage in his development. He’s obviously exciting for the future.

Sunday runner

Imperial Force  has got plenty of ability but is yet to get his head in front. He showed good resolution last time and, if he shows that again, he has to be competitive in this (14:20 Windsor).

Saturday runners at Newcastle

Chil Chil is a filly we really like. She had to skip Royal Ascot as she wouldn’t have loved the ground. She’s in good form at home and should be competitive at this level (14:20).

Cleonte ran in unsuitably soft ground at Royal Ascot, which really didn’t help him. This should get him back on track though, providing it doesn’t come too soon for him (14:55).

Oo De Lally is a course-and-distance winner who is a handy horse on his day. He is tough and consistent and should be competitive again (16:40).

Arctic Vega has been a bit frustrating this season, but through no fault of his own. He just hasn’t had the rub of the green. He’s a course winner so we know the track suits him and I expect he’ll run a solid race (17:10).

Saturday runners at Windsor

Bounce The Blues  is another who had to skip Royal Ascot, but this time because it was too quick for her. She’s in good form and, at the weights, you have to think she has a great chance (15:35).

Sea Fern surprised us when she ran at Salisbury as she showed a lot more speed than we’d given her credit for. We’re going to drop her back to 5f to see if that helps her, and hopefully she’ll give a better showing than she did last time (16:45).

Other Saturday runners

Achelois will need some rain at Newmarket (13:35) as she really doesn’t want it too quick. She was unlucky at Sandown and if she runs to a similar level she should be competitive.

Sunset Salute  will run if we’re happy with the ground for him (14:10 Chester). He’s come on for his last run at Chester, where he was a good winner.

Himyan has run pretty well in two starts to date. She was a bit unbalanced at Salisbury last time, so I think she’ll like the track at Doncaster (18:15). Any rain will suit her, too.
