Andrew Balding: Queen’s Vase been the target for a long time

The Betway ambassador is confident Dashing Willoughby can get in the first three, and previews all the rest of his Wednesday runners at Royal Ascot.

We were absolutely delighted with Beat The Bank's run in the Queen Anne, although it's obviously disappointing to get so close and not win.

I said beforehand that if you put a line through his Newbury run, he had to have a good chance of finishing in the money. He's a very good horse and we might look to step him up to 1m2f at some point.

We have four runners at Royal Ascot on day two and hopefully they all have some kind of each-way chance. It's so competitive that it's always hard to have winners here, but we'll do our best.

Shadn 40/1 goes for the Queen Mary. She’' in good form and is a filly we've always liked at home.

I suppose this is a bit of a leap of faith, as it's never easy coming straight from an all-weather maiden to Royal Ascot.

We don't know what she beat at Kempton, but the time wasn't bad and the manner in which she did it suggested she is going to be a good filly.

She is dropping back a furlong here, but it's a stiff five at Ascot and she was very professional on debut. Her owners were keen to have a go.

We're going there in hope rather than expectation. I wouldn't really know if she'd cope with soft ground, but the straight track rarely gets heavy at this time of year. I think we'll be alright.

The Queen’s Vase has been the target for Dashing Willoughby 12/1 for a long time and I'm very happy with him at home.

He's a decent horse, he stays well and I'd like to think he has a good chance of being in the first three.

He ran well at Chester to finish third in the Vase, Sir Dragonet is obviously a very good horse. He did the donkey work that day and we rather set it up for the closers, but I was pleased with how he stayed on. He will enjoy the extra two furlongs and a drop of rain.

Count Octave finished second to Stradivarius in this two years ago and I'd say Dashing Willoughby 12/1 has achieved more than him by this stage of his career. He's always shaped like a nice horse.

15:40

The Prince Of Wales looks very open and it's going to be a fascinating race.

Sea Of Class 9/2 win a Group 1, he really deserves it.

He's had the perfect prep, won't mind the rain and I think he's got every chance of doing it.

16:20

Oisin Murphy is looking forward to riding Veracious 8/1 in the Duke Of Cambridge.

It looks a competitive race, as you'd expect, but she had some good form last season and Sir Michael Stoute tends to target his horses at this meeting. She looks a solid each-way proposition.

Frankie Dettori rides Rawdaa 4/1 and she is another who will have been argeted at this. She ran very well behind Lah Ti Dar last time and should run well also.

17:00

We run Zwayyan 40/1 in the Hunt Cup and I'd have to say I think he's overpriced.

This is always a very tough race, but he won the Lincoln Trial well in March and then didn't run badly at all in the Lincoln.

He ran a decent race at Bath and was then a pacemaker for Beat The Bank in a Group Two at Sandown, so you can't be harsh on him for that.

We're drawn on the stand side and we're near Chief Ironside who is a classy front runner. Hopefully he will give us a nice tow into the race.

You never know where the best place to be drawn is, but I would always rather be on a wing than in the middle in a race like this. It's really where the pace is and let's hope that it's on our side.

17:35

Our final runner of the day is Symbolize 11/1 in the Windsor Castle and, like Shadn, I think he's quite smart.

We've run more two-year-old colts than fillies this year and I'd say he'd be the best of the colts that have won.

He won well at Salisbury on debut and his work suggests that he's an Ascot horse. The only worry I have is how he would handle really soft ground, so it would be a guess.

His sire has some good stats on good-to-soft but not softer than that, so we'll just have to see.
