Andrew Balding: Tactical is in great form and can be competitive
The Betway ambassador previews his runners at Ascot, Lingfield and Salisbury on Saturday.
It’s a very quiet weekend for us with just the four runners on Saturday. Obviously, we have a very strong team lined up for Goodwood next week, so I’ll be writing a daily blog from Tuesday through to Saturday with my thoughts on our runners.
Tactical (15:00 Ascot) was a bit unlucky at the Royal Meeting. He was drawn on the wrong side but still ran with great credit. He ran well enough in a Group 2 last time, but the main thing is that he’s shown us that he can be competitive off this sort of mark.
The International Handicap is a tough race to win, and we’re drawn low again, so it’s kind of in the lap-of-the-gods as to if it’ll favour us this time. But he’s in great form and goes there with a solid chance of getting placed.
Neandra (17:40 Lingfield) has been waiting for a bit of rain, but that obviously hasn’t come so we’re going down the all-weather route. I think she’s fairly treated on what she’s done so far.
Conflict (19:00 Salisbury) bumped into one at Ffos Las last time. He didn’t do a lot wrong, and this looks a good opportunity for him, although he is backing up quite quickly.
Whimsy (20:00 Salisbury) was disappointing last time, but we think it was because she wasn’t suited by Wolverhampton. On her run at Chelmsford prior to that, she did go well and if she runs to that, she’ll have a chance. She doesn’t mind fast ground, either.
