Andrew Balding: Auriferous has been solid all season
The Betway ambassador previews his runners at Newbury, Newmarket, Chester and Doncaster on Saturday.
Glenfinnan is a nice horse (13:15 Newbury). It’s his first ever racecourse start, so you don’t know what you’re going to get, but he’s done everything right at home. I’ve got a suspicion he’ll be better over a longer trip, but he can run well here.
Lahab has a similar profile (13:15 Newbury). He’s also done everything right at home. He was actually ready to run earlier but he had a slight setback. He’s been shaping up well and will be winning races this year.
Sydney Mews is another of ours having her first career start (13:42 Newmarket). She has shown us that she has ability, but she can be a little gassy at home, hence running her in the hood. Will Carver rides her in all of her work at home, so he knows all about her.
Auriferous has been solid in this type of race all season (14:21 Newbury). He ran well over course and distance earlier in the season and comes into this with a nice low weight, which will help in this heat.
Chil Chil is having her first run back this season as she had a slight setback earlier in the year. She’s a high-class horse with lots of ability and she’s been pleasing me with her work at home. She’s in at the deep end on her first start this year, but whatever the outcome, she’ll come on for it and it’ll put her spot on for the rest of the season (14:56 Newbury).
Star Caliber is also having his first run of the season (15:41 Chester). We’ve done as much as we can with him at home and this looks a good test for him. If he’s not too rusty, he could go well in this competitive race.
Carolus Magnus is stepping up in trip which is what we’ve been wanting to do for a while. He’s solid and should be there or thereabouts (19:45 Doncaster).
