Andrew Balding: It's down to Australian Angel on the track now
The Betway ambassador reviews his seven entries at Newmarket, Newbury, Chelmsford and Pontefract this weekend.
SATURDAY
Australian Angel (14:10 Newmarket) has had a good season so far. She was tough last time and stayed really well. This is a stronger race and seems in good form, so it’s down to her on the track now.
Silence Please (14:30 Newbury) has been disappointing in all honesty. Her third at Goodwood at the start of the season was good and if she can reproduce that, she would have a chance of getting placed. Every bit of black type is important to these fillies, so that’s what we’ll often aim at.
Fivethousandtoone (15:00 Newbury) was much improved last time, where he had the cheekpieces on. His handicap mark remains the same – although he’s run to a higher level than his mark based on the ratings of the horse who beat him and who he finished in front of – so it suggests he’s well handicapped.
Bay Dream Believer (16:10 Newbury) was disappointing last time. She was way too keen and fell into a hole on heavy ground. The hood goes back on and on faster conditions, she should be better suited.
Stone Of Destiny (16:28 Newmarket) was very unlucky in the Steward’s Cup Consolation race. It was a hint of a revival, so there is slight cause for optimism. But this is a slightly different type of race with a much smaller field, so it could get tactical.
SUNDAY
Moment De Reve (14:35 Chelmsford) got upset in the stalls first time out and had to be withdrawn. She has since passed a stalls test and has been going well at home, so she should be competitive.
Chil Chil (15:00 Pontefract) this race looks tailor-made for her. The Steward’s Cup didn’t pan out for her, but she still ran well in the grand scheme of things. You’d have to expect she should run really well here.
