We were very pleased with Fox Tal at Doncaster on Wednesday. We’ve always had high hopes for him and it was really nice to get back on track. It was only a conditions race and he had a small allowance, but I don’t think he was really out of fourth gear.

We’re now assessing options. He’ll have another run this season and we just need to decide if we stick at 1m2f or step up to 1m4f. We’ll see how he is, but he’s definitely a very exciting horse for next season. We’ll be making plans for him over the winter.

It was also fantastic to win the big sales race with King’s Lynn on Thursday. We were thrilled with him on just his second start. They are such hard races to win and he’s another very exciting horse for next year.

Foxtrot Lady’s sister, Dancing Star, won the Sceptre Stakes last year, so it would be lovely if she could repeat the trick. She hasn’t performed to the same level but ran well in the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood.

She takes on some of the same opposition here and going back up to seven furlongs should suit. She doesn’t quite have the pace for six now. I think she’s got a good chance of being placed which is all important with these fillies.

We’re stepping Genetics up in trip in the Mallard and it’s slightly surprising the race has lost a bit of its lustre over the years. I suppose the Ebor has had an effect, but the prize money is probably around the same as it was 20 years ago.

The ground will be perfect for our horse and the track should suit as well. I don’t anticipate any problems with the trip and he should be competitive.

Cleonte  has got it all to do in the Doncaster Cup. We thought this race might cut up a little, we certainly didn’t expect to see both Stradivarius or Dee Ex Bee. There’s still some very good place money to play for, though.

This race is a stepping stone for his big autumn target which will either be the Cesarewitch or Prix du Cadran. There’s a big class difference between the two races. He would have to carry a big weight in the Cesarewitch and the Cadran could cut up. We’ll make the decision nearer the time.

No runner for us in the Flying Childers, but I like Simon Crisford’s A’Ali who has got the strongest form in the race. He won the Norfolk and then the Prix Robert Papin. He didn’t run too badly in the Group One Prix Morny last time and is the one they all have to beat here.

Our final runner at Doncaster on Friday is Berlin Tango  in the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes which looks a strong race. He’s very reliable and travelled really well at Salisbury last time. I think the drop back to seven furlongs will suit him.

It’s a good race, you could give any one of them a chance but ours is a lovely horse who is very straightforward and will enjoy the quick ground.

We had an entry in the maiden but didn’t declare. I would side with Ralph Beckett’s Arabian Moon who was third to Berlin Tango on debut at Ffos Las. He then ran well back there last month when second and Ralph’s horses are in great form.

This handicap looks pretty competitive and I’ll be cheering on Battered for Ralph and King Power. He had some decent form for William Haggas and looks worth trying over this trip. I know Ralph rates him highly.

I don’t have a massive view on the last. Banksea seems like he’s been around for ages, but he has got some very good form in the book. Benadalid won over course and distance back in July so he could be the one.
