It has been a relatively quiet week for the yard with not too many runners, but there’s a big meeting at Newmarket next week where we will have a few.

We’ve got seven on Saturday where the highlight meeting is Sandown for the Eclipse.

Sandown on Saturday

Encapsulation has her first start for us in the Distaff (15:00), having been a close second to Oaks runner up Pink Dogwood in a Listed race at Navan in April when trained by Noel Meade.

That was obviously a fantastic effort and if she can repeat that she will be hard to beat, although this will be the quickest ground she has run on so far and she’s dropping back to a mile.

We’ve been pleased with her at home since she arrived with us and we’ll know a lot more about her after this.

Indomitable goes for the seven furlong handicap (16:10). He has been a shade disappointing so far this season, but we’re hopeful the return to a sounder surface will suit him after two runs on quite soft ground.

He doesn’t have much weight to carry and let’s hope he has a fair each-way chance in what looks an open race.

Cleonte takes his chance in the Marathon (16:45). We were thrilled with him in the Queen Alexandra at Royal Ascot. It was the last race of the five days and King Power’s first winner at the meeting, so it really meant a lot.

We had hit the crossbar a few times during the week and obviously it was an emotional win for everyone.

He has come out of the race in great form so we thought it was worth coming here. He has a Goodwood Cup entry at the end of the month, but we’ll see how he gets on here before deciding about that.

Even though there are only six runners it still looks quite a tight race. Dermot Weld is bringing one over from Ireland and Mekong was a good second to Dee Ex Bee here two starts back.

We’re very happy with our horse, though, and hopefully he can run well again.

We run Pempie in the closing handicap (17:20) and it looks a really competitive race.

She won well at Salisbury in May on good-to-firm but was then a little disappointing back there on softer ground last month.

We’re hopeful the return to quicker ground will suit and she has an each-way chance in a wide-open race.

No runner for us in the Eclipse, but I think everyone in racing is looking forward to seeing Enable back on the track again.

She’s a wonderful mare and even though this is a mile and a quarter on quickish ground, I still think she is the one they all have to beat.

From a personal perspective I will be very interested to see how Telecaster runs. He represents the three-year-olds and if there’s going to be an upset, he could be the one. I think he’s a very good horse.

Haydock on Saturday

Shailene is our only runner at Haydock in the Lancashire Oaks (14:40).

She ran well behind Sun Maiden at Nottingham last month and then won a Listed race in Milan a couple of weeks ago in good style.

It’s going to be a big ask for her. There are some decent fillies in the race and we would be delighted if she could finish in the first three.

Chelmsford on Saturday

We run two in the fillies’ novice at Chelmsford (16:00).

Eagle Queen has a lovely pedigree and didn’t run too badly at Salisbury last time. She’ll improve as she strengthens and gets more experience on the racecourse.

Gallatin is also very nicely bred and we were pleased with her debut over course and distance last time.

She’s another for the future but we hope she’ll run well in this.
