We’ve got a few more runners on Friday and it would be nice if one of them could manage to get their head in front. York isn’t an easy place to have winners because so many people target the meeting.

It’s always a pleasure to watch top class horses like Stradivarius and Battaash, and I’ll be watching the Lonsdale Cup and Nunthorpe with interest.

We were really happy with Genetics  at Ascot a couple of weeks ago when he nearly won the Shergar Cup Challenge for the second year running.

A race like this should suit him and I’m not too worried about his wide draw in stall 18 as he’s a horse that likes to go forward.

Jedd O’Keefe’s Jazeel is probably the one I fear most. He’s had a very good season and has been knocking on the door in a number of these big field handicaps.

Stradivarius , simple. It’s the same old thing, he just keeps winning and I can’t see him being beaten in this.

Dee Ex Bee and Falcon Eight are both very good stayers but they’re up against one of the best ever.

I think that Threat  is a very good horse and, even though he’s going to be fairly short in the betting, he’s the one for me.

He ran a great race in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and then wasn’t beaten far at Goodwood last time. I know that Richard Hannon thinks the world of him.

Declan Carroll’s Spartan Fighter  has some decent form having beaten the Norfolk winner A’Ali at Ripon in June, but he hasn’t achieved what Threat has.

It’s Battaash  for me in the Nunthorpe, I can’t see him being beaten. I know he hasn’t been at his best here in the past two years, but he seems a more relaxed horse this season.

I think the drop down to five furlongs could be too sharp for Ten Sovereigns and his presence means Battaash is a very fair price.

Mabs Cross  is very consistent and was only just denied in the race last year. She clearly likes York and will be hard to keep out of the frame.

This is always a very open and hot maiden, unsurprising considering the prize money. Fox Duty Free  ran really well at Newbury, but he wouldn’t want the ground to dry out too much.

It was nice to see the horse who beat him that day win the nursery here on Tuesday. I hope he’ll run well, although it’s hard to be confident in a Convivial, the most valuable maiden of the season.

I do really like Spirit Warning  and I’ve been dying to run him in a quality big field handicap like this. He’s 5lbs wrong at the weights following his recent win at Windsor, but I do think the race will suit him.

We’re using Will Carver to offset that and he’s a young jockey that is doing really well and working hard.
