The Betway ambassador reveals which of his runners at York and Newmarket could run a big race and those that might struggle.

12:55 York

I’ve been really pleased with Purdey’s Gift 12/1 of late, who I’m sure will be much better suited by a return to turf.

He was pulled out of a recent engagement at Haydock due to heavy ground, so I hope it doesn’t get too soft at York. It’s a competitive race but I think he’ll go well.

14:25 Newmarket

We’re taking a bit of a punt with Damage Control 16/1, who makes a step up in both trip and class.

He’s always worked like a nice horse and if he can stay this trip, it’ll open up his options going forward.

15:00 Newmarket

We were obviously thrilled with Tactical’s 5/2 success in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and I’m looking forward to seeing him run again.

I think he’s a high-class two-year-old and I think he can handle the step up. It’s a very hot race that includes the runner up in the Coventry, but we’re very happy with him.

15:35 Newmarket

Spanish Angel 16/1 was a good winner at Windsor over five furlongs in June and backed that up with a good third at the same track a few days later.

He does like top of the ground, so wouldn’t want much rain. But he’s in good form at home and, on the right ground, we’d be hopeful of a nice showing.

16:10 Newmarket

Alounak 4/1 is a high-class horse and his run in the Hardwicke was very pleasing.

He’s proven at this level and it mustn’t be forgotten that he was fifth in in the Breeders’ Cup Turf last year, so he’s got lots of ability. He goes on any ground and must have a great chance.

16:50 York

I was very disappointed with Edinburgh Castle 6/1 last time out but I’m hoping it was just that he doesn’t go as well on the all-weather.

I didn’t think it’d be an issue, but he didn’t shine when he ran at Chelmsford last year and perhaps that’s why. Prior to that run last time, I’d have been really confident of a very good run in this race, so I hope he can bounce back.

17:20 York

Fox Premier 5/1 needed the run more than we thought at Ascot. He was very gassy and has come on since then.

He does stay further than this but should be effective over a mile. We’ve put a tongue strap on which should just help him settle better. He’s got a good chance of hitting the frame.
