The Queen Anne is the traditional curtain raiser, and this year’s renewal looks as competitive as ever.
Space Traveller 20/1 is bidding for his second consecutive victory at Royal Ascot following his flying success in the Jersey Stakes last year. He improved with each run last year and finished off the season with a solid run in the Breeders’ Cup Mile where he was staying on at the finish – proving that he’ll enjoy the stiff mile at Ascot.
Skardu 14/1 won the Craven and was third in the Guineas last year. He has a lot of ability and, if he can run to that mark, then he’ll certainly go close.

The Ribblesdale Stakes is a Group 2 for Fillies over 1m4f and it’s no surprise to see trainer John Gosden well represented.
He has Frankly Darling, ridden by Frankie Dettori, and Miss Yoda, the recent Lingfield Oaks Trial winner, ridden by Rab Havlin.
Despite the popularity of these two fillies, I think it’ll pay to side with Aidan O’Brien’s Passion 6/1, who had a nice prep run last week, which would have put her spot on for this.
She’s always been highly thought of by her connections and it would be no surprise if success here leads to her being kept over in the UK until The Oaks in two weeks’ time.

Sir Michael Stoute is often well represented in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes and saddles two live chances this year. Of those, Jubiloso 7/2 looks the strongest candidate.
She has always been highly touted and made a good impression on the first two starts of her career last season when bolting up at both Chelmsford and Newbury.
She was then only beaten by less than three lengths in the Coronation Stakes after that, confirming that she is a filly of the highest grade. She should have won on her next start at Goodwood but had no luck in the race, being forced wide on a number of occasions.
I’m inclined to put a line through her final run of the season in the Betway Atalanta Stakes, as she could have been over the top by then and hasn’t been seen since. Her connections gave a very positive update on her at the weekend and I expect her to be winning under Ryan Moore.

The Ascot Stakes has been won by a National Hunt – or dual-purpose – trainer for the last 10 years, so it’s no surprise to see Verdana Blue 7/2 at the head of the market for Nicky Henderson, who has trained the winner of this race before.
She loves fast ground and the lack of National Hunt racing from March onwards would only have helped her stay fresh for this assignment. She’s the class act and not far off Champion Hurdle class so, provided the ground doesn’t change, she has outstanding claims.
At a bigger price, the Gary Moore-trained Quloob 18/1 has ran well on a few occasions at Ascot and this 2m4f trip should be right up his street.
