It’s been tough going the first two days at Doncaster and, but for Laurens' victory yesterday, we could have been looking at an even worse return.

The racing gets better for the last two days, though, so I’m still confident we can get into some nice profit.

Here are my best tips for day three...

1.20 – Flying Scotsman Stakes

There was a lot to like about the way ZOFFALEE  battled on towards the end of his race at Chester last time out when winning a decent little novice race.

He encounters the same going today and I think he has more in his locker.

He takes on a number of exposed types and can certainly find the first three for an each-way punt at a double-figure price.

1.50 – Sceptre Stakes (Group 3)

A four-year-old won this race last year, but it should pay to focus on three-year-olds who accounted for the nine previous winners before that.

ON HER TOES  won well at Ascot in July and showed battling qualities to keep her head in front – a trait that has been a feature of winning runs the first two days of this meeting.

In-form Joe Fanning takes the ride and this Haggas horse can take a hand in the finish.

2.25 – Flying Childers Stakes (Group 2)

This is all about speed and some pacey juveniles go to post for this Group 2 prize.

The market looks to make it a two-horse race between Havana Grey  and Heartache  .

It’s hard to disagree and come up with an alternative selection, but I'll try...

Those that want to avoid the short prices could do well to back the consistent MAY GIRL  each-way.

3.00 – Mallard Handicap

A competitive, albeit small, field handicap over the St Leger course.

SEAMOUR  was second in this race last year when carrying a big weight.

He’s slowly coming down in the ratings and, although he hasn’t won since 2015, can gain a long-overdue success with conditions to suit.

3.35 – Doncaster Cup (Group 2)

A Group 2 race over a marathon 2m 2f distance.

I’ll take a chance on SHE IS NO LADY  .

She hasn’t got her head in front yet this season but has been running reasonably well and it looks as though this distance will suit.

4.05 – Maiden Stakes

SHERZY BOY  is my best bet on day three and I cannot believe the big prices on offer for this Hannon juvenile.

The stable do well with this type of horse and they have the services of top jockey Ryan Moore on board.

Horses with experience usually win these sorts of races and those making their debuts would have to perform with extreme class first time up to contend.

4.35 – 6½f Handicap

Barring a poor run at Chester in May, AVENTINUS  has been a consistent performer this season and I really like his chances.

With Jack Mitchell on board his form figures read 112. He’s well-weighted and a great price.

5.10 – Classified Stakes

I think it would be mad to write-off REBEL CAUSE  following a poor reappearance run at Wolverhampton last time out.

He was a good performer in 2016 with two second places and a victory.

His pedigree suggests he can cope with the step up in trip and he’s my best each-way bet of the day at a massive price.
