14:10 WETHERBY

The Rowland Meyrick Chase is the feature race on the card at Wetherby and, while there will be a focus on those at the head of the market, I’m sweet on the chances of DIDERO VALLIS  for the in-form Venetia Williams, who can do no wrong at the moment.

He finished fifth in the Grand Sefton last time and now has the services of the very valuable 7lb claimer, Miss Lucy Turner.

He’s dropped in the weights slightly and should be looking to at least get placed.

14:45 WETHERBY

The 0-130 Handicap Hurdle is the second race in 4 To Win.

It looks competitive on paper, but I’m a huge fan of EATON HILL  for Kerry Lee.

This horse has some very good form in the book including a second in a Grade 3 and a fifth behind Paisley Park last year.

His mark of 122 looks very lenient and, if he’s on song, then he should be going very close in this.

15:05 KEMPTON

The King George is the highlight of a fantastic Boxing Day card at Kempton Park where all eyes will be on Cyrname  and Lostintranslation  .

However, I’m a fan of last year’s winner, CLAN DES OBEAUX  . That result proves he likes the course and he will be able to be ridden however he likes.

I had always considered him a bit soft, which, in hindsight, may not have been fair, but he looked to come of age last year with his win in this contest as well as the Denman Chase stamping him with real authority.

He isn’t the same horse at Cheltenham, so I’m happy to put a line through his performance at the Festival, and his comeback run this year at Down Royal would have put him spot-on.

15:40 KEMPTON

The finale on day one of the Winter Festival at Kempton Park is a competitive handicap hurdle.

I’m keen on the chances of the Henry Daly-trained six-year-old, HONEST VIC , who looks to be coming of age.

He beat a horse called Skandiburg at Market Rasen on his first start this season, who is well-fancied for the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in March, and then finished fourth in a very good race at Haydock.

He can better than finishing position in this field.
