13:15 CHELTENHAM

TOP PICK: MY BROTHER

Second choice: Red Hot Chilly

A very tough start with a huge field charging around Prestbury Park jumping eight hurdles in the process.

Dostal Phil was a beaten favourite in both of his last two races, but looks to have the tag as market leader again. Having been beaten at 4/5 and 11/4, the offer of around 5/1 in a much harder race does not inspire confidence.

The one I like is MY BROTHER from the Neil Mullholland yard. Mulholland has a fantastic record at Cheltenham with a figure of +£11.64p to a £1 stake on all runners at the venue.

He was good enough to run at Listed level on the flat, and looks well-handicapped for his first try in exalted company over obstacles.

13:50 CHELTENHAM

TOP PICK: BUN DORAN

Second choice: Movie Legend

A nice little handicap over the minimum chasing distance.

A Hare Breath won a hurdles race on this card two years ago and is clearly happier at the start of each season, as evidenced by his record after a break, winning races on seasonal reappearance twice in his career.

A negative for Ben Pauling’s chaser is his age, with no horse older than eight winning this race in the last decade, hinting that speedy younger legs are needed for this test of speed and precision.

For that reason, we could also eliminate fellow 10-year-olds Shanahan’s Turn and Rock On Rocky.

Seven-year-old BUN DORAN hails from the Tom George stable who have had over 20 winners at the course in the past, mostly in this type of race. He can justify his place towards the head of the market here.

15:10 LINGFIELD

TOP PICK: QUEEN OF PARIS

Second choice: Referee

We cross to Lingfield for one of many races within Betway’s ongoing sponsorship of the All-Weather Championships.

This is a tricky flat maiden which could actually suit a well-bred newcomer, since those that have already seen a racetrack have hardly set the world alight.

William Knight’s QUEEN OF PARIS is a filly that could shine on her first run and is worth getting onside against a few that look like expensive flops.
