TOP PICK: LAUGH ALOUD

Second choice: Dan’s Dream

Godolphin’s LAUGH ALOUD is a worthy market-leader for this race.

Her win in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Epsom this summer was mightily impressive and, on the clock, it ranks as the very best form on offer in this field.

She’s only ever competed over a mile, but this small drop back to 7f should not pose her any problems. She is a confident selection.

14:25 DONCASTER

TOP PICK: RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE

Second choice: Shumookhi

This Group 2 sprint for juveniles will be a pacey affair.

Goodwood winner RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE will be very popular and isn’t as exposed as some of the others in the field. Just three starts have seen him win twice, including that Group 3 Molecombe at the Sussex track.

He looked to have plenty in hand that day and should have more in reserve if any of the others show improved form.

I expect him to make it two from two for the market leaders early on this card.

15:00 DONCASTER

TOP PICK: AUSTRIAN SCHOOL

Second choice: Higher Power

This is a tight handicap over the St Leger distance.

AUSTRIAN SCHOOL has been incredibly consistent this season, never finishing outside the first four in his nine races. He’s also never been further than five lengths from the winner in all of those contests, which have been run mostly at staying distances.

A beaten favourite last time out, he can win for the fifth time in his career by taking this contest for the Mark Johnston stable.

16:05 DONCASTER

TOP PICK: SANGARIUS

Second choice: Athmad

A Listed race for two-year-old horses, this is usually won by a runner towards the top of the market.

Six favourites have won this race over the last decade.

SANGARIUS is another selection on today’s card that may look obvious, but sometimes it’s best to keep it simple.

Sir Michael Stoute’s colt looked very impressive at Newmarket on debut.

FRIDAY TIPS

It’s not often that I want to back horses towards the top of the market, usually trying to find a bit of value or an each-way angle elsewhere.

But the three fancied horses above – LAUGH ALOUD in the 13:50,  RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE in the 14:25 and SANGARIUS  in the 16:05 – are all worth including in a trixie, which is a cover of four bets (three doubles and one treble).
