13.10 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: ROYAL INTERVENTION

Second choice: No Lippy

A competitive Listed race for juvenile fillies sponsored by Betway gets us under way, and Impulsion will be very popular following her debut win at Goodwood.

That victory was on soft ground, though, and she’ll be encountering a very different surface here at HQ's July track, where the scorching weather has produced ground on the firm side.

ROYAL INTERVENTION was second on her debut at Lingfield but has the scope to improve and win this at a nice price.

She may be given most to do by the highly-tried No Lippy.

13.30 NEWCASTLE

TOP PICK: CHOCOLATE BOX

Second choice: Cosmelli

This is the consolation race for horses that couldn’t make the rating for today’s feature at 14.05.

This contest has been won by a relatively short-priced favourite in each of the last two years.

The Grand Visir looks to have that honour this time but, on balance, looks opposable encountering an All-Weather racing surface for the first time.

Suegioo ended his long losing run at Pontefract last time out, but doesn’t convince on this surface either.

CHOCOLATE BOX looks a good proposition with form and conditions to suit.

13.45 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: SIR DANCEALOT

Second choice: Dutch Connection

This is Group 3 sponsored by Betway, over a seven-furlong trip.

There are some high-class horses in the field, three of which were seen at Royal Ascot earlier this month.

Tabarrak from the Richard Hannon stable is a horse that’s performed just shy of this level, but connections have won this race three times in the last decade.

SIR DANCEALOT is capable at this level and looks the best choice.

Dutch Connection was fourth in this season’s Lockinge and that makes him a live danger.

14.05 NEWCASTLE

TOP PICK: NATURAL SCENERY

Second choice: Island Brave

This feature race of the day is affectionately known as the ‘Pitman’s Derby’.

Favourite Withhold will be looking to make a mockery of what is usually a very competitive stayers’ handicap after doing the same in the Cesarewitch at the back end of last season.

There is hope for the bookmakers, though, with only two favourites winning this  contest in the last decade.

Last year’s winner Higher Power will be hoping to emulate Tominator who won the race twice, although he couldn’t manage it back-to-back.

NATURAL SCENERY was second last year and can go one better this time around.
