13.40 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: FIRMAMENT

Second choice: Mukalal

Four, five and six-year-olds have dominated the Bunbury Cup over the last decade, so we can narrow this 20-runner field down to 17.

Though only one favourite has won this in the last 10 years, no winner has returned over 16/1, so we can also focus on those in the top half of the betting.

FIRMAMENT is due a big run, and it could be argued his best performances of late have come over this trip on good-to-firm going.

14.15 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: BLUE POINT

Second choice: U S Navy Flag

The Group 1 July Cup for sprinters out of the top drawer is the feature race of the day.

Likely favourite BLUE POINT can land this for Godolphin, who are having one of their best seasons in a long while.

His win in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot is some of the best form on offer.

He’s three from six over this trip on this kind of ground.

14.50 NEWMARKET

TOP PICK: GRACEFULLY DONE

Second choice: Zagitova

This is a juvenile maiden for fillies, just to make us work a little bit harder for that prize.

Not much form is on offer, but those that have already seen a racecourse don’t look anything special.

For that reason, we can go for a debutant from a likely stable.

I like GRACEFULLY DONE from the Luca Cumani stable, in colours we're more likely to associate with an Aidan O’Brien runner.

She can take this the same way Ballydoyle did for the same owners three years ago.

15.40 YORK

TOP PICK: WHAT'S THE STORY

Second choice: Brorocco

The John Smith’s Cup is a handicap that punters always look forward to, although we haven’t had a winning favourite for over 10 years.

Second favourites have a good record in that time with three of the last eight winners.

The draw stats are inconclusive with high to middle seemingly favoured, but Master Carpenter’s win from stall one in 2015 means we can’t get carried away.

Four apprentice jockeys have won this race in the last decade and the highly-regarded Callum Rodriguez can take this on board WHAT’S THE STORY.

SATURDAY'S TIPS

media

QUORTO  won well on debut and can follow up in the Superlative Stakes (13.05 Newmarket).

EMINENT  can bounce back to form in the Summer Mile Stakes (13.20 Ascot), this drop back in trip should suit.

TIME TO STUDY  has conditions to suit in the John Smith’s Silver Cup Stakes (14.35 York). This looks a weak Group 3 and on his best form he looks a value price.

Combine the above three horses in a patent.
