Second choice: Gossamer Wings

Likely favourite MAIN EDITION can make it four wins from four runs with a victory in this Group 2 contest.

She won the Albany at Royal Ascot last time out, but it could be argued that she showed even better form on her first two starts, winning easily both times.

TOP PICK: WISSAHICKON

Second choice: Beringer

Frankie Dettori was in winning form at the track on Thursday and WISSAHICKON looks to be a great chance for him to get into the winners’ enclosure on Friday.

He’s going up in the weights but looks more than capable of defying the handicapper.

TOP PICK: AL HILALEE

Second choice: Art Du Val

Three favourites have won this race in the last seven years, although the stats are muddied by an even spread of debutant and already-raced winners.

There’s not much form on offer and the time figures for those that have already seen a racecourse aren’t too encouraging.

For that reason I’ll plump for newcomer AL HILALEE from the stable of Charlie Appleby, who won this last year.

TOP PICK: CORROSIVE

Second choice: Medieval

CORROSIVE can land this small field handicap for Hugo Palmer.

He suffered a rare defeat last time out in the Brittania at Royal Ascot, but prior to that he had racked up a hat-trick.

This is a lot easier than his Ascot task, and he can make amends.

FRIDAY'S TIPS

Saluti is my first Trixie selection in race one. He showed good form in his two runs at the Newmarket July track and this small field handicap can go his way.

Main Edition is a very good bet in the 2.25 for the reasons outlined above. She can form the cornerstone of the Trixie.

15.35

I wouldn’t normally tip horses that are odds-on, but Alpha Centauri looks a certainty for the hat-trick in the Falmouth. She makes up the final leg of the Trixie.
