14.35 YORK

TOP PICK: ZACK MAYO

Second choice: Caenageo

This is a tough field to pick from in the opener, but I’ll go with the in-form ZACK MAYO who has won three of his last five and finished runner-up in the other two.

The most impressive performance of those a handicap victory at Ripon where he destroyed a field that included Redicean - who has turned into a tidy hurdler under Alan King - by 3¾ lengths.

His return last month was a little disappointing, but that run could prove to be a nice warm-up for this weekend.

Richard Fahey had another good Dante Festival and Caenageo could trouble a few here.

The five-year-old isn’t in the best of form but has tasted success in big handicap fields at Carlisle, Nottingham and here last September.

14.50 HAYDOCK

TOP PICK: COMPLETION

Second choice: Strange Society

COMPLETION has made a really good start for William Haggas with two wins and two places from four starts.

He won impressively in a 7f handicap at Redcar three weeks ago and that should put him well in contention here.

Strange Society has looked a decent colt for Hugo Palmer with two thirds and one win on the All-Weather.

Really well-handicapped at 8-3 and with Josie Gordon riding all three of his trips so far, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the mix.

15.40 YORK

TOP PICK: EL ASTRONAUTE

Second choice: Boundsy

Another tough field but course-and-distance winner EL ASTRONAUTE should be well in the mix here.

The five-year-old is in the form of his life (1225-231), including big handicap victories in the Lingwood at Glorious Goodwood and most recently in the Jack Berry at the Dante last week.

Jason Hart has a real connection with this horse and he should go well again.

Boundsy was one of Richard Fahey’s stars last year recording three wins, three seconds and a third from seven trips between May and October.

The four-year-old has struggled since and didn’t perform with Paul Hanagan in the saddle, but perhaps Paddy Mathers can get more out of him at a big price.

16.20 GOODWOOD

TOP PICK: KOEMAN

Second choice: Dannyday

I tipped KOEMAN when he finished a solid runner-up at Ascot a few weeks back, and I’d include him again here.

Mick Channon is still in fine form and so is this colt, who is carrying 8st 4lb and also has David Egan’s 3lb claim on board as well.

The other one I’d go for is Dannyday, who returns after just under a two-year absence.

Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, the six-year-old is proven over 1m 6f withan impressive win in the Northumberland Vase in June 2016.

The lengthy spell out is a concern, but I'm optimistic he can run a big race here.
