13:20 CHELTENHAM

TOP PICK: BUN DORAN

Second choice: Theinval

The opening 4 To Win race gives us every chance of progressing, with just six runners to select from.

BUN DORAN was an eight-length winner at the November meeting and can follow up again at Prestbury Park.

Tom George’s seven-year-old has been in the first three in seven of his ten chase starts. These look like his optimum conditions with trip and ground to suit.

13:55 CHELTENHAM

TOP PICK: BARON ALCO

Second choice: Guitar Pete

This is the big race of the day and there are plenty of form lines back to a similar Grade 3 at Cheltenham’s November meeting.

The ultra-consistent BARON ALCO took the spoils that day, extending his race record to seven wins and eight placed finishes from 20 starts. I’d expect him to go well again.

With respect given to the likely favourite Rather Be, who was brought down when going well in that race. Also in opposition are last season’s winner Guitar Pete and 2016 winner Frodon.

14:05 NEWCASTLE

TOP PICK: BRITISH ART

Second choice: Dolphin Village

We close the competition with two races at Newcastle, part of our Betway sponsored All-Weather Championships.

This handicap for lower grade horses will take a lot of unravelling. BRITISH ART takes my eye though.

He is a course and distance winner that was a beaten favourite last time out, I expect him to make amends here returned to a track he’s performed well on in the past.

15:50 NEWCASTLE

TOP PICK: BOY IN THE BAR

Second choice: Polybius

This is another small field and anyone in with a chance by this stage has to negotiate just four rivals when finding a winner.

I like BOY IN THE BAR from the shrewd Ian Williams stable. The horse is three wins from 11 runs on an all-weather surface and this race is well within his range.
