14:20 DONCASTER

A 5f sprint handicap at this time of year can always throw up some funny results, and the recent history of this race proves that point.

Six of the last 10 winners of this race have been double-figure prices. 

Rayong  is still unexposed, has plenty of potential and will appreciate any cut in the ground.

He ran in some very good races as a two-year-old and on all known form, has the most ability in this field. He’s just yet to show it.

Tanasoq  , on the other hand, won’t want it too soft. He has slipped to an attractive handicap mark and won’t be far away if the recent wind surgery ekes out further improvement.

15:15 CHELTENHAM

The Pertemps Handicap Hurdle is a qualifier for the final at the Festival in March.

To qualify for the final, you have to finish in the first six in any of the qualifiers throughout the season.

Flinck  was an eye-catcher at Chepstow on his comeback run where he travelled well until coming under pressure in the home straight.  He found his second wind and stuck on gamely to finish third.

With the fitness under his belt from that run, he could go very close.

Betway are paying five places, so it’s also worth backing Honest Vic , who is a horse I’ve selected as a one to follow in my latest blog.

He’s an improving horse that has plenty of ability and I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him just yet. He finished the season with an excellent fifth at the Cheltenham Festival in a race much hotter than this.

I’m also expecting Champagne Court  to run well, but this does look like a prep race for another over fences. If he shows up well for a long way, put him in your notebooks. He’s got plenty of class and has a big race in him this season.

15:50 CHELTENHAM

This handicap chase is one of the hardest puzzles to solve this weekend.

On the best of his form, Frodon  could just be too good for his rivals. After the race, it could be a case of saying: ‘It was obvious!’

However, he has plenty of weight to carry and to give away to his rivals. 

West Approach  does like soft ground and will appreciate any further rainfall. He may be most reliable on his first start of the season.

In the last four seasons, he’s finished 2^nd, 3^rd, 1^st and 2^nd, so he does go well fresh although his yards lack of form is a huge worry.

With that said, Cobra De Mai  is now well handicapped on his best form and has the benefit of a recent run at Fontwell.

He’s run well over the course in the past and is the chosen mount of Harry Skelton, who had the yard’s Captain Chaos to choose from too.

16:05 DONCASTER

This 7f handicap is a hot contest with plenty of in-form horses from in-form yards.

None more so than Tomfre  , who was a recent heavy ground winner at Leicester. The-three-year-old colt has been in good form this season and has shown up in all of the big handicaps this Summer, but it’s clear now that he needs soft ground.

He’ll get that here and with his stable in red-hot form, he should run very well.

Alemaratalyoum  has slipped to an attractive mark and loves soft ground, so any move in the market will be telling.
