14.20 YORK

TOP PICK: LINE OF REASON

Second choice: Copper Knight

A large field sprint handicap to gets us under way on day two.

The draw looks very important for this contest, and horses drawn five or lower have dominated with eight wins over the last decade.

That’s helpful in narrowing down the selections in a tough opener. LINE OF REASON is drawn in stall five and is a course and distance winner.

Trainer Paul Midgley has had three winners in the last five days and can extend that good form here.

Jockey Oisin Murphy has a decent record on the Knavesmire and boasts a £35 profit to a level £1 stake in the last five years.

15.30 YORK

TOP PICK: WELLS FARHH GO

Second choice: Nordic Lights

This is the feature race of the meeting and a trial for the big classic at Epsom in a few weeks.

There hasn’t been a winning favourite of this contest since subsequent Derby victor Authorized in 2007.

Roaring Lion is the likely market leader and will be heavily fancied hailing from the John Gosden stable, which won this race in 2015 and 2016.

WELLS FARHH GO is seeking a hat-trick here, stepping up in distance from an unbeaten juvenile campaign, and has already won at the track and is bred as if this 1m2f distance will suit.

Nordic Lights missed his two-year-old campaign but is another one I like at a big price having won twice already this season.

16.05 YORK

TOP PICK: MYTHICAL MADNESS

Second choice: Original choice

A talented group of mile handicappers line up for this race, which pays over £30,000 to the winner.

MYTHICAL MADNESS was running well on the all-weather of late, despite his stable having a quiet start to the year.

They are now firing on all cylinders and this seven-year-old looks favourably treated to give a good showing.

He has been well beaten at York in two previous runs, but that was with cut in the ground. This will suit him better as he has two previous victories on good to firm going.

17.35 YORK

TOP PICK: ARROWTOWN

Second choice: Big Thunder

Next we've got a stayers’ handicap to finish off the card, and the competition.

Previous winners of this race have an average SP of just over 18/1.

ARROWTOWN looks as though conditions will suit her here, she was only narrowly beaten over course and distance back in October.
