One lucky punter scooped £10,000 on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival thanks to 4 To Win, Betway’s free-to-play prediction game.

Callum Ewing, a 19-year-old labourer from Inverclyde, Scotland, landed the jackpot after correctly predicting the winning horses in Tuesday’s four chosen races.

Callum was one of 33 players to do so, but clinched the prize pot for himself after coming closest in the tie-breaker question that asked for the combined winning distance of the four horses.

4 TO WIN: DAY ONE RESULTS

14.50 Coo Star Sivola (5/1F)

15.30 Buveur D’Air (4/6F)

16.50 Rathvinden (9/2)

17.30 Mister Whitaker (13/2)

Tie-breaker: One length

“I’m more of a football punter,” said Callum, “but thought: ‘It’s Cheltenham, so I should get involved.’

“I don’t really know that much about the horses, but those names just stuck out at me.”

Callum was asked why he decided to go as low as two lengths in the tie-breaker – a brave call that left him with little room for error.

“I chose low on the distances because I thought there would be close finishes,” he said.

“The heavy ground wasn’t a concern. I just looked at the betting and saw lots of horses grouped together in most of the races and thought that it would be competitive.”

Callum has already decided what he’s going to do with his winnings, although he is not ruling out his chances of boosting his bank account further before the Festival is over.

“I’m going to enjoy myself at the weekend and then save most of it,” he said. “But the first thing I’m going to do is try my luck on Wednesday’s game!”
