Enable fails in hat-trick bid

The mighty Enable had her colours lowered in the Arc.

It seemingly wasn’t a shock to trainer John Gosden and, as much as I wanted her to win, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to me either after seeing how testing the ground became.

As horses get older, they also get wiser, and almost only do what they need to.

With her speed blunted in the final three furlongs, she was never going to keep finding and was ultimately outstayed by Waldgeist.

She ran her heart out for connections, and it won’t tarnish her reputation as being the Queen of Clarehaven.

Victor Ludorum

Victor Ludorum was a convincing winner of the Jean-Luc Lagadere at Longchamp on Sunday.

I’ve seen better two-year-olds, but he is a frame of a horse who will keep improving and I’d love to see him in the French 2000 Guineas if Earthlight comes over to Newmarket for the English version.

Godolphin have some special Sharmadal colts this year, and it means they have another exciting horse to look forward to.

Kynren gets his head in front

Kynren was very well-supported in the Challenge Cup and was always going to run well with conditions hugely in his favour and his nearest market rivals all underperforming.

However, I don’t think he wins enough races to consistently challenge in Group races.

He may find a Group 3 on soft ground, and I could see him running a big race in the Betway John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock, despite that being in June next year.

Ones to watch this week

This weekend sees the return of the National Hunt season proper at Chepstow.

I’m expecting Welsh trainers to pick up a few winners at that meeting as they so often do.

The Dewhurst also gives us our final chance to see Pinatubo before he goes away for the winter, so it will be good to see if he can demolish the field the same way he has done in his last few races.
