Hello Youmzain

The defection of Advertise and Ten Sovereigns meant the Sprint Cup lost some of its shine at the weekend, but the performance of Hello Youmzain was still something to behold.

Returning to the scene of his Sandy Lane Stakes victory, he made all and wasn’t for catching, running some good sprinters into the soft ground.

The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old certainly looks to have all the makings of a solid Group 1 horse.

He looks to still be improving and will be a force to be reckoned with in all the top sprints next year.

Streamline

Streamline took the Sirena Stakes in convincing fashion at Kempton Park on Saturday after being given an uncomplicated ride by Hector Crouch, who is having a good season in the saddle.

In my opinion, although he’s a talented horse whose owners will have lots of fun with him, he’ll fall just short of being top-class in this country.

His trainer, Clive Cox, has some nice young horses this year with Positive and Golden Horde, who are currently at the top of the pecking order when it comes to stepping up into Group 1 company for the big end-of-season two-year-old races.

Salute The Soldier

Cox also trained the winner of the Cunard Handicap a little earlier in the afternoon at Ascot with Salute The Soldier, who beat Tabarrak by a head for the second time in two runs.

After two good handicap wins, you’d think his connections would be keen to target some black-type races given his new mark is going to be around 108, which will make it tough in handicaps.

In the same race, Ripp Orf flew home once again to get placed in another 7f handicap at Ascot. His day must come soon!

Ones to watch

We’ve another great week of racing to look forward to with the Doncaster St Leger festival and Irish Champions weekend.

I was really impressed with Cloak of Spirits on her debut at Ascot. She tore apart a field of promising types and, granted normal improvement, should be hard to beat if she lines up in the May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

In Ireland, I’d love to see Madhmoon win the Irish Champion. He was a fantastic two-year-old and has improved hugely this season, including a good second in the Derby when travelling like the best horse throughout the race. He should find this 10f trip much more to his liking.

For me though, the biggest race of the week is the Pat Smullen Champions Race for Cancer Trials Ireland, with the most amazing line-up of jockeys getting back in the saddle to raise money and awareness for a great cause.
