In a year with no real standout juvenile hurdler this season, it was exciting to see Solo burst onto the scene with an emphatic victory in the Adonis Hurdle.

His connections all waxed lyrical about him afterwards and his rider, Harry Cobden, couldn’t contain his excitement at this horse.

It is a race that has produced plenty of Triumph Hurdle winners over the years, and that performance saw him shoot to the head of the betting for this year’s renewal at .

With the Festival in just over two weeks’ time, I’m sure he won’t be too far away.

Song For Someone

Song For Someone went into our notebook a few weeks ago and he duly obliged in the Grade 2 Betway Kingwell Novices’ Hurdle, even though Diego Du Charmil looked like he had it in the bag with 50 yards to go.

I’m not sure whether we’ll see him again this season, but he’s a big horse who is improving all the time and I’m excited to see him over fences next season.

Betway Winter Derby

The Betway Winter Derby turned into a fantastic race and was won by the sheer excellence of Frankie Dettori aboard Dubai Warrior.

He’s a massive stamp of a horse that resembles a chaser more than he does a middle-distance horse with a long stride that is very eye-catching.

He went from the front before kicking clear and wasn’t for catching on what was Dettori’s first domestic ride of 2020.

Honourable mentions

Credit must go to Who Dares Wins, the winner of the Betway Pendil Novices’ Chase on at Kempton Park.

Not only was he superb on Saturday, but he was also the winner of the Northumberland Plate on the All-Weather at Newcastle last season and was also placed in the Chester Cup.

What a joy he must be to own.
