The Pertemps always produces a fantastic race, and the criteria for qualifying ensures we should know all about the horses lining up.

Six-year-olds have won the last three renewals - including the extremely impressive Presenting Percy, who followed up with the RSA in incredible fashion on Wednesday.

Betway ambassador Richard Johnson – whose daily column you can read HERE – looks to have a fantastic chance on LOUIS’ VAC POUCH, who has been aimed at this race with a degree of confidence by trainer Philip Hobbs.

15.30 – STAYERS’ HURDLE

TOP PICK: UNOWHATIMEANHARRY

I’m going with another Betway ambassador and columnist in the feature Stayers’ Hurdle.

Harry Fry’s horse UNNOWHATIMEANHARRY was a respectable third in this contest last year when an odds-on favourite.

These conditions should actually suit far better than the good ground then, so he shouldn’t be written off in what looks a wide-open field.

He’s almost guaranteed to be there at the finish.

16.10 – PLATE HANDICAP CHASE

TOP PICK: GUITAR PETE

Other handicaps this week have seen a number of horses towards the top of the weights smash previous trends, but the Plate is one race where that shouldn't be the case.

The last nine years have not seen a horse with 11st or more anywhere near the winners’ enclosure, though using that as an eliminator still leaves us with nearly half the field in contention.

GUITAR PETE fits the right age profile and has had nearly two months to recover since unseating at Ascot. He’s a course-and-distance winner who will love the conditions.

17.30 – KIM MUIR HANDICAP CHASE

TOP PICK: BAND OF BLOOD

Amateur riders take centre stage in this race and it’s important to have a jockey that, while sometimes inexperienced, still knows how to win races.

James King has a 22 per cent strike rate in chase races and partners with the ultra-shrewd trainer Dr Richard Newland and the hat-trick-seeking BAND OF BLOOD. He is a confident selection in a tricky race.
