13:30 Turners’ Novices Chase

MIGHTY POTTER  is just the best horse in the race.

Appreciate It isn’t improving as a nine-year-old and was well beaten in the Irish Arkle, but I do think he’ll finish in front of Banbridge, who was ridden to pick up prize money last time.

14:10 Pertemps Handicap

The Pertemps is an interesting race that has changed in the way that you qualify. It used to be that you had to finish in the first six in a qualifier but, from this season, you’ve had to finish in the first four.

There are a few that could run well in this including GOOD TIME JONNY  , who will enjoy going back up in trip after running over two miles, which really didn’t suit him.

Nicky Henderson has always thought the world of Walking On Air  and I thought he won very nicely last time. He runs off a good mark and is the chosen mount of Nico de Boinville.

14:50 Ryanair Chase

I thought that SHISHKIN  was very good at Ascot in the Grade 1 Ascot Chase last time. He’s had two wind-ops and they seem to have got to the bottom of him now.

I don’t think this is a stellar Ryanair Chase and, if the rain kept falling, I would have to question if that would truly suit him, but, on the face of it, he’s the best horse in the race.

15:30 Stayers’ Hurdle

HOME BY THE LEE  is my idea of the Stayers’ winner. He’s improved incredibly this season and has won his last two in good style. He ran in this race last year and managed to finish sixth, but he wasn’t the compete article that I think he is now.

It’s a great, open race this year and I’m really looking forward to seeing who comes out on top.

16:10 Plate Handicap Chase

The Plate is always a really hotly-contested handicap chase, and there’s a couple I think are worth keeping on side.

SO SCOTTISH  was second in a graded race last time and there could mileage in his mark yet, and these connections won this race a few years back with The Shunter.

War Lord will be doing his best work late and I think Embittered for Joseph O’Brien won’t be far away, too.

16:50 Jack De Bromhead Mares' Novices’ Hurdle

I would really hope that Henry de Bromhead wins the race named after his son, who was so cruelly taken from the world last year. He’s got a great few chances, including Foxy Girl who Rachael Blackmore rides.

I did think HALKA DU TABERT could have got closer to the winner last time and I think she’s better than that.

17:30 Kim Muir Handicap Chase

Jamie Codd – along with a few other jockeys – are great value in the Kim Muir. Jamie rides DUNBOYNE and I think this has been a plot for a while. He jumps, travels and stays and that is what you need for a race of this nature.
