The Cornwallis Stakes is a Group 3 contest for two-year-olds over 5f.

Method 11/5 has a very valid excuse for his defeat in the Middle Park at Newmarket two weeks ago, with his saddle slipping, but he had travelled well into the race.

If he handles the softer ground, he might just be too good for his rivals.

At a bigger price, First Edition 10/1 could run very well for Clive Cox and Adam Kirby, who are having a fantastic season - especially with high-class two-year-olds.

First Edition had no luck in running on his debut, but absolutely bolted up on his second start. He was turned out very quickly when he ran very well in the Mill Reef, where he finished fourth.

Dropped back to 5f, he could have a major say if he handles the soft ground.

14:05 YORK

Ouzo 11/1 has long been touted as a Group horse by his trainer Richard Hannon. Although things haven’t gone quite to plan with him this season, he’s still shown a good level of form and will relish the softer conditions he faces here.

He ran very well and was only narrowly beaten on his first start of the year, then returned quickly at Royal Ascot. I don’t think that helped him too much, having two hard races in quick succession.

He’ll appreciate dropping back to 1m and has the ability to very well.

Alemaratalyoum 20/1 looks set to run a big race off this mark with conditions in his favour too.

The Fillies’ Mile is a Group 1 for two-year-old fillies over 1m and is the feature race on the card.

This year’s renewal is red-hot and includes the first four in the betting for next year’s 1000 Guineas.

Zabeel Queen 3/1 based on their run in the Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster last month.

Zabeel Queen seemed to make hard work of it at Doncaster, but she stuck on well and that experience won’t be lost on her.

The two Irish fillies are battling each other for the fourth time and, whilst it’s very hard to split them on form, the money on the day will speak volumes.

The Old Rowley Cup is a middle-distance handicap for three-year-olds, and has often been won by a horse who goes on to contest some of the better staying handicaps in years to come.

Luncies 15/2 only has one blip to his name, and that was when something was clearly amiss at Newmarket on fast ground earlier this season.

Bar that, he’s won his three other starts and has won well on soft ground too.

Louganini 14/1 has also won on soft ground and looks like he’s improving with each race. He can play a part under the brilliant Hollie Doyle.
