13:25 SANDOWN

RIO RONALDO  has only had one run for his new trainer Brian Meehan, which came at Newmarket a couple of weeks ago in a hotter race than this.

He showed up well for a long way on soft ground, which he wouldn’t have found ideal.

Back on better ground, the eight-year-old looks set to run a huge race, especially of his lowest handicap mark for five years.

Talented Angus Villiers takes off 5lbs and the pair will have a good sporting each-way chance.

15:15 DONCASTER

The Doncaster Cup looks wide open this year without the participation of some the year's best stayers.

As EAGLES BY DAY  is just shy of top class, I think his connections will be looking forward to this task. On his stable debut, following a move from Michael Bell’s yard, he won a competitive race at York, showing off the promise he had shown previous.

He has since run twice, but both in much hotter races than this and as I think the four year old, is slightly below top class, I think he has run very well in the circumstances. If he stays the extended 2m2f trip, he’ll have a cracking chance on his natural ability, especially at his current each way price.

16:35 CHESTER

MONTANARI  has been off the track for a long time, but on both of his starts he shaped with considerable promise and should be winning this novice race before going on to better things.

His trainer, Betway ambassador Andrew Balding, has a great record with his runners at Chester, too.
