October and November are known for having the highest frequency of winning outsiders during the calendar, so don’t be afraid to back some of the bigger prices on Friday’s and Saturday’s cards.

With that in mind, here are my four best horse racing tips for Friday…

14:50 NEWBURY

SOLAR ECHO  was a beaten favourite last time out, but has had a nice break of just over five weeks before tackling this competitive 1m 2f handicap.

She was impressive at Sandown back in August when winning a Class 5 handicap, and wasn’t far away in a Class 4 at Newmarket later that month.

The softer ground at Ffos Las last time probably wasn’t to her liking, but she can bounce back here at a nice price.

15:10 CHELTENHAM

This race is usually won by a horse in the early stages of their National Hunt racing career, with horses aged five and six accounting for nine of the last 10 winners.

Only one of the winners in that time carried more than 11st 1lb to victory. None started as favourites, with the average winning SP since 2008 coming in at just under 10/1.

The last three winners, meanwhile, had already been seen out that season.

Given all of the above, strong cases can be made for CHRISTMAS IN APRIL  and Roi De Dubai  . My slight preference is for the former.

Colin Tizzard’s six-year-old won over the same distance at Warwick in May and has conditions and a handicap mark to suit.

He can run a big race under Harry Cobden who has a mightily impressive strike rate of 34 per cent in the last two weeks.

16:55 CHELTENHAM

Another maximum-field handicap, but this time over the larger obstacles.

This race has also been unkind to favourites, with just two winners in the last decade, although the majority of winners in that time still returned at single-figure SPs.

All of the previous winners over the last decade had seen a racecourse already that season, with the biggest gap back to summer jumping in July and the vast majority having run within six weeks of this contest.

OIGHEAR DUBH  makes the journey over the Irish sea after a consistent run of placed efforts.

He’s stayed up to three miles over hurdles with a respectable placed effort when trying that trip at Clonmel earlier this month, so should stay 3m 1f over fences.

He’s finished in the first three in six of his 11 chase starts so far.

18:45 KEMPTON

The last fancy of the day runs on the All-Weather at Kempton.

Seven of the 11 scheduled runners in this race have already seen a racecourse, but none of them have shown much in the way of worthy form.

Of those with form, Amjaady  is the best, but this looks ripe for a decent newcomer.

The market has moved in favour of Godolphin's ART SONG , who looks head and shoulders above his opponents on breeding.

It might not take anything more than a decent debut from him to land the spoils here.
