13:50 Goodwood: Royal Intervention

The opening race at Goodwood on Friday is the Oak Tree Stakes, for Fillies and Mares over seven furlongs.

The market is headed by Jubiloso who is the most likely winner after her third place in the Coronation Stakes, but her price is incredibly short in what is going to be a hectic race with plenty of runners.

Royal Intervention - trained by Ed Walker - comes here off the back of a victory in the Group Three Summer Hill Stakes at Haydock last time.

Prior to that success, she was tapped for toe over six furlongs in both the Commonwealth Cup and The Sandy Lane and this step up in trip comes at a perfect time in her career.

Her connections have booked the services of Frankie Dettori, who no doubt could have had the pick of most other runners. Despite a tricky draw in 14, she should run well and should be backed each way.

15:00 Goodwood: Dark Vision

One of the horses I’ve been looking forward to seeing run all week is the Mark Johnston-trained Dark Vision.

Most punters will remember his performance at Goodwood last year, when he romped away with the Vintage Stakes and moved to the head of the classic markets for this year.

Unfortunately, he didn’t fulfil the promise he’d shown that day, although he has performed with huge credibility this season and shouldn’t be overlooked here.

His previous run at Newmarket was full of promise and he’s back on a dangerous mark here. Under Oisin Murphy, this Dream Ahead colt looks sure to run well.

16:10 Goodwood: Wentworth Amigo

Nursery races are notoriously hard to find winners, but I think that Wentworth Amigo is worth backing for the Jamie Osborne yard.

Jamie doesn’t send runners to big meetings unless he thinks they have a good chance and I’m convinced that the horse he saddles here has a great opportunity.

On debut, he was as green as grass after breaking well, but he ran on to finish fifth.

He then won on his next start over a sharp five furlongs at Sandown, but he found listed company too hot in his most recent start at the Dragon Stakes.

An opening mark of 79 looks workable and I think this son of Gutaifan will go well under Pat Dobbs.
