Goodwood on Wednesday has a very competitive feel to it, so lots of the races will be watching briefs for me, but I do like four at Galway.

The first is IMMELMANN  , who ran well when not beaten far on his debut for Willie Mullins at the Curragh. He’s lightly raced and is yet to run on soft ground, but he’s by Alderflug, who relished these conditions, so you’d think he’d be at home in them. The booking of Rachael Blackmore catches the eye, too (18:10).

The Galway Plate (18:40) is the big race of the week and I’m glad that ENNISKERRY   is running in it. He’s got a touch of class about him and I loved the way he dotted up in a flat race at Leopardstown last month.

I spoke to trainer and owner Barry Connell after the race and it sounded as though they might look to bypass this in fear that he might have too much speed for it, but I'm glad they’re giving it a go. If he settles well in behind, I don't think he’ll have any worries about the trip. He is inexperienced for a nine-year-old, but the flip side is that he could have much more to give.

FEET OF A DANCER   is chasing a hat trick after winning at Kilbeggan and Wexford, and I don’t think it’s out of her reach (19:15). She’s gone up 5lb and I’m not sure that will hinder her progression too much. This is her first go on soft ground but this dam handled soft and I think this drop in trip will offset that concern too.

The last race is really competitive, with quite a few of them coming into this in good form (20:20). I’m siding with THORNLEIGH FRANK  , who is improving and won on his handicap debut like Feet Of A Dancer. He sluiced up last time, beating a good horse who’d won well previously, so it’s no surprise that he went up so much.

His connections mentioned missing Galway, so I’ll take it as a vote of confidence that he’s bounced out of that race well and any cut in the ground should suit him, too.
