Flying Scotsman is a potential live one in the second race. He won here on the flat two years ago and there’s every chance he’s been laid out for Galway. He’s the chosen mount of Mark Walsh too, which is always a positive.

However, I’m going to put up LOW LIE THE FIELDS  (17:40), who was second off this same mark at Punchestown last year. His jumping went to pieces in a couple of starts over fences last term, so it’s no surprise that they’ve shelved that for now.

I’ve plumped for two in the Galway Plate. THE SHUNTER  (18:40) was fourth in the race last year off the same mark, and you’d have to think this has been a target for a while. He’s only had one run over fences since then and even won a maiden on the flat last time. He’s got a similar profile to a few of the recent winners of the race, and I think there’s more to come from him over fences.

I also think it’ll be worth keeping EARLY DOORS  on side, too. He’s 9lb higher than when he won the race a couple of years ago, but he ran well in the Irish National on his most recent start over fences. He had a spin over hurdles recently, which would have put him spot on for this. I like that they’ve applied the blinkers for him, too.

HALLOWED STAR  (19:15) could be very tough to beat. He’s got good course form having won over hurdles and he was second in a bumper here earlier in his career, too. He’s got a rating of 82 and looks to have been laid out for this week.

COZONE  (20:20) was a touch unlucky last time and can make amends this time. He didn’t have much room and got a touch on the head from another jockey’s whip. He’s only gone up 2lb and with Colin Keane on board, he has plenty in his favour.
